Privacy Policy

Last revised: June 8, 2026

Ask Hans is a product of Common Area LLC. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the controls available to you. We've tried to write it the way an attorney would read it — clear, specific, and without apology — because most of our users are real estate professionals who spend their days reading contracts.

If you read only one paragraph, read this one: we treat your client data and your transaction data as yours. We don't sell it, we don't share it with advertisers, and we don't use it to train third-party AI models. The behavioral analytics on our marketing pages (described below) is the only data we collect from non-customers, and it has a one-click opt out.

Behavioral analytics on marketing pages

Our marketing site (askhans.ai home, pricing, features, blog, and similar public pages) uses Compass, a first-party analytics tool operated by our parent company, Common Area LLC.

What Compass records

Two cookies (a visitor ID and a session ID) stored on your browser, plus a record of the pages you visit, time on page, scroll depth, and any UTM parameters in your URL. Your IP address is hashed before storage with a daily-rotating server-side salt — the raw IP is never written to disk and becomes computationally one-way after roughly 24 hours.

How identification works

If you click a link from one of our marketing emails, the link contains a code that lets us know which prospect you are, so the next message we send is contextual rather than generic. Similarly, if you submit a form on our marketing site with your email address, we associate your earlier anonymous visits with your contact record.

What Compass does NOT cover

The Ask Hans iOS app and the authenticated agent dashboard (everything past sign-in) are completely out of scope for Compass. Your day-to-day use of Ask Hans as a paying agent — your client transactions, your dashboard activity, your deal pipeline — is not tracked by Compass. Different systems (covered in “Customer data” below) handle those, with different disclosures.

How the data is used

By Common Area's sales and marketing team to: rank prospects by interest signals, alert operators when a high-intent prospect engages, and personalize outreach.

How the data is NOT used

We do not sell it to data brokers, share it with advertising networks, use it for behavioral retargeting, or transmit it to any third party other than the processors that run our infrastructure (Cloudflare for the tracking Worker, Supabase for the database — both acting as data processors under Common Area's instructions).

Retention

Compass data tied to identified prospects is retained while you remain a prospect or customer. Anonymous session data is retained for 24 months from last activity, then automatically deleted.

Your controls

  • Opt out from this site: Visit our privacy preferences page and toggle Compass off. The setting persists for two years on this browser.
  • Opt out browser-wide: Enable “Do Not Track” in your browser settings — Compass honors the DNT signal and no-ops entirely.
  • Request deletion: Email privacy@commonarea.io with the subject “Compass data deletion request — Ask Hans” and we will delete all Compass data associated with your identity within 30 days.

Customer data (the authenticated product)

Once you sign in to Ask Hans as a paying or trial agent, you create and import data into your workspace: client records, deal records, tasks, vendor contacts, uploaded documents, forwarded emails, and AI conversations. This is your customer data, and the following terms apply:

  • Ownership. You retain ownership of all customer data. We act as the processor and you are the controller.
  • How we use it. To operate the product for you — storing and surfacing your records, running Hans (our AI assistant) over your data to answer your questions, sending notifications you've enabled, handling support requests, and improving the product's reliability and performance.
  • AI training. We do not use your customer data to train third-party foundation models. When Hans responds to your questions, your data is sent to our AI providers (currently Anthropic and, as a fallback, Venice.ai) under terms that prohibit them from training on your inputs or outputs.
  • Sharing. We do not sell or rent customer data. We share it only with the subprocessors required to run the service (cloud infrastructure, email/SMS delivery, AI providers) and only when required by law.
  • Retention. While your account is active, we retain your customer data. After cancellation, we retain it for 30 days to allow reactivation, then delete it. You can request immediate deletion in writing at any time.

Subprocessors

We rely on the following subprocessors. All are contractually required to handle your data with at least the standard of care described in this policy.

  • Vercel — web hosting and edge functions
  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
  • Cloudflare — the Compass tracking Worker (marketing analytics only)
  • Anthropic — AI model inference for Hans (primary)
  • Venice.ai — AI model inference for Hans (fallback)
  • Resend — inbound and outbound email handling
  • Sentry — application error monitoring

Your rights

Regardless of where you reside, you can ask us to: provide a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccuracies, delete data, or stop processing for marketing. Email privacy@commonarea.io and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

When we make material changes, we update the “last revised” date at the top and, for current customers, notify the account-owner email on file.
